L’Arche Calgary

We are a warm and welcoming community filled with people who celebrate life. Our most popular events include sharing food, playing musical instruments and dancing and singing. At our festivities, everyone is welcome and we have lots of fun.

In 1973, L’Arche Calgary began operating with only a handful of people. Today, the community has grown to just over 100 people: 67 assistants (including office staff and 20 live-in assistants), 28 core members and eight board members. At the core of L’Arche is the Tamarack day program, a Supported Independent Living Program (SILP) and five homes located in the southwest quadrant of the city.

In an effort to reach out to our neighbors and to give back to other communities, L’Arche Calgary opened “Our Coffeehouse,” an initiative which gives responsibility to several core members who work there. Every Monday afternoon, seniors are invited to enjoy free coffee and desserts, live music and the opportunity to meet core members at a nearby community hall.
