Creating a world where everyone belongs

Across Canada and around the world, L’Arche creates communities of friendship and belonging. In L’Arche, people with and without intellectual disabilities live, work, learn, and grow together. L’Arche demonstrates that when persons with intellectual disabilities take their place at the table, they contribute to a more just, compassionate, and vibrant world for all.

One example of the increased impact L’Arche communities are having across Canada.
Gil’s sister Marie explained to us just how much her little brother has loved cameras from a very young age. “No matter where he goes, if there’s a photo, a camera, Gil is right there!”
What an amazing year 2018 has been so far! L’Arche continues to grow from strength to strength. Congratulations to the new projects of L’Arche Avalon (St. John’s) and L’Arche Fredericton for all the work you have done in achieving project status.

Jean Vanier Daily Thoughts

Protection for Continuity

I am rather concerned about communities without any traditions, which refuse to accept external authority. This could be the state, or a bishop, or authority born of a network of sister communities. For without an external authority a community will not outlive its founder for long and, if there is no external control at all, the founder will be in danger of making some serious mistakes.
